Design Lines Found In Cover Art

The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess:

  • Main cover design split diagonally separating the two forms of Link
  • One circle encompasses the title art while the other circle encompasses both forms of link.
  • The circle that encompasses both forms of link is centered on the Triforce (Hyrule Symbol)
  • The vertical center line rests on the back of the "L" in ZELDA and the "l" in Twilight. 











Mario Party 4:



  • Main cover art follows the rule of thirds.
    • Top Third: upside down characters
    • Mid Third: Title & Star designs
    • Bot Third: Right side up characters
  • The Title rests perfectly on the horizontal center line.
  • All characters can be encompassed by a circle that is centered in the middle of the cover.








Fable II:

  • Main cover art follows the rule of thirds.
    • Top third: top half of good persona
    • Mid third: Title, lower half to both good & bad personas, gun of both the good & bad persona
    • Bot third: top half of bad persona
  • The title rests perfectly on the horizontal center line
  • The horizontal third lines rest on the waist line of either the good or bad persona.
  • The complete design can fit within two triangles or one diamond centered on the center of the cover.


Zoo Tycoon for PC (original):

  • Main cover art follows the rule of thirds.
    • Left Third: Tiger's cage & the letters; Z, T, and Y of the title.
    • Mid. Third: Elephants face, metal gate, & the letters; O, C, and O of the title.
    • Right Third: Gorilla's cage & the letters; O, O, and N of the title.
  • Elephants head can be fit into a triangle with the base lining up at the bottom of the word "Tycoon".
  • The triangle comes to a point at where the elephants foot rests on the gate.
  • Another triangle can form that helps outline the tops of cages and again comes to a point where the elephants foot rests on the gate

  • The cover can be divided in half vertically and divide Conner's form down the center.
  • The horizontal center line crosses both the top of Conner's gloves as well as his waist line.
  • Conner's position can easily form a triangle with the base as the bottom of the cover.
  • Conner's hand position & weapons form another triangle at the angles they are positioned.
  • The bottom of what would be the top third of the cover art rests on Conner's shoulders and upper lip.

  • The cover can be divided vertically placing Ezio's face on the right and weapon on the left.
  • The cover can be divided horizontally with the division line resting on Ezio's shoulders and wrist.
  • The arm of Ezio forms a perfect angle with the two top corners of the page. 
  • The cover follows the rule of thirds fairly well with the design mainly only consuming 2/3s of the full cover.

  • Front cover has a strong diagonal from the bottom of the "painting" to the top of the title horizontal
  • All characters besides one fit within a circle centered at the center of the page.
  • The horizontal center line cuts through one character's breast and another characters cheek bone line.

  • Front cover follows the rule of thirds:
    • Top third: title, line rests directly on character's eyes.
    • Mid Third: Full body, line cuts off at character's hand.
    • Bot Third: Leg of character & title.
  • When diagonally divided:
    • Bottom Left => Top Right: Follows the characters left leg angle.
    • Top Left => Bottom Right: Follows the characters body and right leg angle.
  • The characters left foot rests on the horizontal center line.

  • Front cover contains 4 circles.
    • Inner: Encompasses elephant & outline follows the purple trim
    • 2nd: Edges rest along the yellow design within the blue flower.
    • 3rd: Edges rest along all the elephant's eyes.
    • 4th: Edges rest along the outer edge of the blue design.
  • The weapons below the elephant create a triangle with the bottom corners of the cover and includes the title.
  • The vertical center line divides the main Elephants head directly in half.

    • Top third: Title & upper portion of enemy ship.
    • Middle Horiz. Third: bottom portion of enemy ship & one lone ally ship.
    • Bottom Third: Explanation & two ally ships.
    • Left Third: One ally space craft & part of title and explanation
    • Middle Vert. Third: Entire enemy ship, part of title and explanation
    • Right Third: two ally space crafts & part of title and explanation.
  • Both ally ships located at the bottom form a triangle with the point located at the center of the magazine
  • The enemy ship forms two triangles or one diamond centered around the top thirds division line.
